Angel Island history and hike

I've live in SF for 6 years. Have always known about Angel Island - that other rock in the middle of the Bay - but never been.

The weather has been so nice lately that I just have to spend some time on that rock. Having grown up on little islands, spending time on this little island just seems so comforting :)

As with all day trips launching from Ferry Building - we must start with Blue Bottle Coffee...

Angel Island is best known as 'Ellis Island of the West'. It was an immigration control centre, where immigrants were racially segregated and Chinese immigrants were unjustly detained (or not processed) due to the Chinese Exclusion Act of the late 1880's.

As with much of San Francisco's history - fire took care of this immigration process outpost. The processing was moved back to SF in the 1940's

The island was re-purposed as a military base and hospital during US Civil War, WWI and WWII;

If you're not a history fan, there is always the beautiful scenery - great views of SF, Tiburon and all the way to Richmond. And the eucalyptus (gum) trees on the island;

So grateful to finally have visit this place - better late than never! Will definitely go back for a nature visit soon :)
